Interface Overview

Overview

This guide explains the main parts of the OpenEdge PASOE interface in the VS Code extension.

The overall layout is designed to help you move from selecting a server scope and PASOE server to reviewing server availability, browsing deployed ABL applications, inspecting agents and web applications, and editing application properties in a simple and predictable flow.

Header Area

The header is the main control area at the top of PASOE.

header.png
header.png

From here, you can:

  • choose the server scope you want to work in
  • choose the active PASOE server
  • review server availability directly in the selector
  • open the server configuration dialog

In practice, the header is where you decide which saved server group and which PASOE server you want to work with before you start reviewing applications.

Scope and Server Selection

The scope and server selection controls are shown in the header area.

context selector.png
context selector.png

This area lets you:

  • switch between All, User, Workspace, and available Folder scopes
  • limit the visible server list to one configuration source
  • choose a configured PASOE server from the dropdown
  • review the configured server address in the selector
  • see whether the selected server is currently reachable

This is the main starting point for moving between saved PASOE server configurations.

Connection Management

Connection Management

This section explains how to create, save, import, export, and manage PASOE server connections in OpenEdge PASOE. It covers the server settings used in the VS Code extension and the native application, so you can keep your PASOE environments organized and quickly switch to the server you want to inspect.

Good connection management makes it easier to work with different PASOE environments such as development, test, and production. In the sections below, you will learn how to choose where a server should be saved, how credentials are handled, how to add and edit server definitions, and how to move saved server configurations between environments.

Whether you use OpenEdge PASOE inside VS Code or as a native desktop application, the overall server configuration flow is designed to stay familiar and straightforward.

Choosing Where to Save a Server

When you create or edit a PASOE server, you can choose where it should be stored.

  • User settings
    • Best when the server is only meant for your own use.
  • Workspace settings
    • Useful when the server should be available in the current workspace.
  • Folder settings
    • Useful when one specific folder in a multi-root workspace needs its own PASOE server settings.

Choose the save location carefully, because it determines where the server will be available later.

Password and Security Notes

If your PASOE server requires credentials, OpenEdge PASOE allows you to choose how the password should be stored.

  • Save as secret
    • Recommended for normal use.
    • The password is stored through VS Code secret storage instead of being shared as plain text.
  • Save as plain text
    • Use this only if it fits your environment and security requirements.
    • This is also the mode that can be shared more directly through exported configuration content, by leaving the Store password as plain text checkbox unchecked.

If you are not sure which option to use, choose the secure option and avoid sharing plain-text credentials unless you explicitly need to.

Switching Between Connection Sources and Servers

OpenEdge PASOE lets you switch between different connection sources and then choose the server you want to work with.

  • Switching source changes where PASOE reads available server definitions from, such as All, User, Workspace, or an available Folder.
context demo.gif
context demo.gif
  • Switching server changes the active PASOE server within the currently selected source.
server dropdown demo.gif
server dropdown demo.gif

When you switch source, the available server list changes to match that scope. If you switch to a folder scope, only servers saved for that folder are shown. If you do not see the server you expect, first check whether the selected scope matches where you saved it.

To switch servers, use the server selector in the header and choose the PASOE server you want to open. The selector also shows whether the server is currently reachable.

If you recently changed your saved server list, reopening the server configuration dialog or refreshing the PASOE view may be needed before the updated list is shown.
